Dr Tracy Davids
Director and Manager of Commodity Markets & Foresight (BFAP)
Dr Tracy Davids is a Director at the Bureau for Food and Agricultural Policy (BFAP), where she leads the Commodity Markets & Foresight programme. She specialises in commodity market modelling, competitiveness, and international trade, and regularly contributes to global market outlooks. Holding a PhD in Agricultural Economics from the University of Pretoria, she has extensive international collaboration experience and is recognised for her innovative approach to agribusiness strategy. Her work in fostering partnerships across sectors has made her a driving force behind projects that advance Africa’s agricultural potential.

Ian Bird
Senior Executive, Business Unity South Africa (BUSA)
Ian Bird is a Chartered Accountant who qualified at Ernst & Young and completed his national service at the SA Revenue Services before joining Spoornet (now Transnet Freight Rail). He advanced to executive responsibility for the Export Coal Line to the Richards Bay Coal Terminal and later served on its Board. Since moving into consulting in 2001, he has advised leading companies including Anglo American, Eskom, Exxaro Resources, ArcelorMittal, DP World, and Imperial Logistics. He has also collaborated with global firms such as Oliver Wyman, HATCH, BIGEN, and RCE, and previously led the logistics stream at the Public Private Growth Initiative. Today, as Senior Executive at BUSA, he heads the Transport & Logistics Focal Area and works closely with government through the National Logistics Crisis Committee.

Prof Ferdi Meyer
Managing Director, Bureau for Food and Agricultural Policy (BFAP)
Professor Ferdi Meyer is Managing Director and a founding member of BFAP, with more than two decades of experience in agricultural market modelling, value chain analysis, and scenario planning. Under his leadership, BFAP has become a key institution in advancing sustainable development within South Africa’s agricultural sector and beyond. He also serves on various boards, is a Trustee of the Protein Research Foundation, and holds the position of Professor Extraordinary in Agricultural Economics at Stellenbosch University. His deep knowledge of farming is rooted in his upbringing on a crop and livestock farm in the North West Province.

Kellie Becker
Managing Director, Southern Oil (Pty) Ltd
Kellie Becker is the Managing Director of Southern Oil (SOILL), Africa’s largest canola crusher and oil manufacturer. He was SOILL’s first employee when he joined as General Manager in 1996 and became Managing Director in 2007, leading the company’s turnaround from near insolvency into a national leader in the edible oils sector. A qualified mechanical engineer, he previously worked at PPC Lime, Denel, and Stellenbosch University’s Bureau of Mechanical Engineering. Becker is known for his strong leadership in FMCG supply chains, operational performance, sustainability, and community upliftment, positioning SOILL as a key player in the agriculture and food industries.

Dr Erhard Briedenhann
Founder and CEO, Management Investment and Distribution Services (MIDS)
Dr Erhard Briedenhann holds an MSc in Poultry Nutrition from Stellenbosch University and a PhD in Agribusiness from the University of Natal. He has served the industry in leadership roles including Chairman of AFMA, Vice Chairman of the Protein Research Foundation, Chairperson of the Oilseeds Advisory Committee and SAGL, and Vice Chairman of SAGIS. He also serves on the board of SACTA and owns a trading business supplying inputs to the feed sector. With decades of expertise, he remains a key figure in driving oilseeds, feed industry development, and strategic agricultural collaboration.

Anina Hunter
Managing Director, Epol Feed & AFMA Chairperson
Anina Hunter is Managing Director of Epol Feed at Rainbow Chicken and Chairperson of AFMA. With over 22 years’ experience in the feed industry, she holds degrees in Animal Science and Business Administration. She prioritises creating an enabling environment that supports long-term industry growth, emphasising collaboration between industry and government to address challenges such as infrastructure constraints and rising energy costs. Under her leadership, AFMA has focused on strategic areas including maintaining feed affordability, promoting industry self-regulation, and investing in skills development. Recognised as a mentor and role model, Anina has empowered teams and inspired professionals, particularly women in agriculture, through her dedication to resilience, collaboration, and sustainable sector growth.

Peter Lovelace
Chief Executive Officer, Central Edible Oils (Pty) Ltd (CEOCO)
Peter Lovelace is CEO of Central Edible Oils, a leading processor of sunflower seed and soybeans in South Africa. CEOCO crushes sunflower seed at its Boksburg plant and operates an extruded soya plant in Delmas and Boksburg, producing oilcake widely used in the poultry and feed industries. The company has also been recognised internationally, winning the Unilever Partner to Win Award for sustainable sunflower farming. Lovelace plays an active role in industry bodies, serving on the Oilseeds Advisory Committee and as Chairman of the newly formed Oilseed Crushers Association of South Africa (OCASA).

Dr Gillian Arendse
Manager: Communication and Stakeholder Relations, NRF-iThemba LABS
Gillian Arendse is a well-known and loved presenter at many an Educational event; whether a school, conference or symposium. He is an experimental nuclear physicist (by training), motivator (by choice and conviction), and a general all-rounder committed to use his gifts and talents to impact the lives of every person with whom he interacts. His passion to leave people better than he found them is fuelled by a need to be challenged on a daily basis.
He is currently employed by the NRF-iThemba LABS as Manager: Communication and Stakeholder Relations; a position he took up on 1 July 2020.
Highest Qualification: PhD (Experimental Nuclear Physics, 1997 – Stellenbosch University)
